On Monday night, only a few months into his term, President Donald Trump declared that it is un-American for individuals not to own a Tesla electric vehicle. In contrast, Joe Biden, who served as President for four years, did not attempt to implement a federal electric vehicle mandate during his time in office. Trump’s decision to eliminate Biden’s nonexistent EV mandate and disregard previously funded EV infrastructure plans is seen as a reflection of his unique approach, characterized by cognitive dissonance. He has bestowed the title of the true patriot’s automaker upon Tesla while insisting that anyone not owning a Tesla by 2025 is engaging in the egregious act of boycotting and conspiring against this iconic American institution and its founder, Elon Musk. These values, championed by the President, highlight his authoritative stance on consumer spending and power dynamics, in stark contrast to Biden’s advocacy for “woke” Free Market Capitalism. Failure to possess a Tesla could result in being labeled an illegal protester or perceived as wishing for America’s downfall, a sentiment contradictory to the nation’s founding principles.
“You must go out right now and fulfill your American duty by purchasing a Tesla to show support for Elon Musk and his various endeavors. From overseeing a social media platform, leading a space exploration company, and managing a car company, to allegedly misusing government funds and influencing American politics, Musk has been involved in a range of controversial activities. Despite receiving substantial government contracts, valued at $38 billion, it is essential for the American public to contribute to Musk’s position as one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, as well as a parent to 14 children and counting.”
Donald Trump continued by stating that he intended to purchase a Tesla for himself, despite Presidents being prohibited from driving themselves for the rest of their lives, and Trump not having actively driven anything besides a golf cart for decades. This decision is not due to any influence from Elon Musk, who allegedly paid over $270 million for Trump’s re-election and threatened to oppose any individuals who do not align with the Trump/Musk agenda. With the recent decline in Tesla’s stock price, Musk faces the risk of losing his financial empire when banks demand repayment of the loans he has received. If Musk’s financial support vanishes, so too does his value to the Republican party. The use of the presidential office to promote Tesla over other American automakers may be seen as favorable by some, but skeptics view it as a strategic move to bolster their authority. Trump’s supporters are urged to ignore any dissenting voices and remain loyal to him, even if it means paying higher prices for everyday items. Those who question their financial capability are dismissed as elitist liberals who are out of touch with the working class.
